About Celine Ferland, Flute Instructor

Celine-Marie Ferland, is currently living in Washington State where she has been the instrumental director for Cedar Park Schools since 2016. She is the flute director for Northwest University and runs a private flute studio in Kirkland. Celine has been a music lecturer at Mekelle University and Central Washington University. She specializes in flute performance and flute pedagogy (the art of teaching flute), and she performs as a solo flutist. In 2011, Celine Ferland established the music department and developed the 2nd higher music degree program for Ethiopia. From its inception, Ethiopia established ten more higher music degree programs throughout the country. 

Ms. Ferland first came to Ethiopia in 2009 as the founder of the “Celine Ferland Flute School ” in Adigrat, Tigray, Ethiopia, the first flute school of its kind.  She began this program by bringing 8 flutes and taught 10 orphaned girls of the St. Lucy School. From this the school grew into 50 students offering music education to the teachers, students and members of the Adigrat community. In the following 18 months Ms. Ferland brought an additional 30 flutes, music repertoire, metronome/tuners, and music stands to support the learning program for this school. This school along with other music schools in Tigray, Ethiopia continue to grow and bring music to many young lives. 

Ms. Ferland enjoys offering masterclasses and giving concerts both nationally and internationally. She brings over 25 years of musical experience to her students and loves to help them find their musical voice. She continues to develop her programs in the community, and abroad.  She is a mother of four children and has three amazing grandchildren. Ms. Ferland enjoys cooking, gardening and engaging in different cultures and creating musical experiences for students across the globe.
